Kapa Haka

Ahakoa iti, he pounamu

We have two kapa haka groups at Selwyn Ridge. Juniors meet once a week where we enjoy exploring aspects of Maori language and waiata. We focus on enjoyment, participation and understanding basic Maori words and commands. This group is open to Small World and Busy Bee children.

Senior kapa haka meets once a week for 45 minutes under the guidance of Matua Huey. This group is open to all children in the High Flyers and the A-Team, and we enjoy learning waiata, haka, poi and waiata-a-ringa. Maori language is used for command and instruction where possible. At the end of each year we take part in the annual Primary Schools' Ra whakangahau festival.
