Pūrākau of our Pou
In 2024 a mural was created as part of the Creatives in Schools initiative. A group of children from our school collaborated with artist Cory Handley, supported by James Tapiata, to bring to life the story of our three pou. This project strengthens the pūrākau of our pou in the present while preserving it for the future.
Alongside this specialist group, our school engaged in learning more about our local iwi Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāti Pūkenga, with a focus on Ngā toi. Many of the artworks can be seen throughout the mural.
The mural project provided an opportunity for our learners and community to participate in and experience a creative journey from planning to completion. It visually represents our commitment to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi, emphasising the Principles of Partnership, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among all members of our school community. By recognising and celebrating our shared histories, cultures, and aspirations, we aim to not only beautify our school but also to instil the values of respect, collaboration, cultural appreciation and a sense of belonging in the hearts and minds of our learners.
